Binned, explained plainly
Privacy policy
Last updated October 28, 2026
Binned is an app for writing down what's bothering you, then throwing it away or keeping it in a locked Drawer. This page explains what happens to your writing and who can access it.
There is no server
Binned has no server of its own. Nothing you write is sent anywhere by Binned, unless you choose to send it yourself. For example, you might share a saved copy of your Drawer.
We don't run ads or use analytics or tracking tools. We don't know what you write or how often you open Binned. Google Play and the App Store may give us download information through their own systems.
What stays on your phone, and who can read it
| What | Where it lives | Who can read it |
|---|---|---|
| A page you're writing | An encrypted draft on your phone, so a crash or locked screen doesn't lose it. It's wiped when you throw it away. | Someone who passes your phone's app lock. |
| A page you throw away | Nowhere. It's wiped when you throw it away. | No one. |
| A page you keep | An encrypted database on your phone. | Someone who passes your phone's app lock. |
| An encrypted copy you save | Wherever you choose to put it, such as your own files or a cloud drive you select. | Only you. There's no account or password reset. If you lose access, we can't recover it. |
| Crash reports | The app stores' crash reporting tools. | Us. They never contain anything you typed. |
No account
Binned doesn't ask for your name, email, or phone number, and there's nothing to sign up for. The Drawer lock uses your phone's existing fingerprint, face, or PIN. Your phone's operating system handles that information. Binned doesn't receive or store it.
The microphone and speech permissions
“Say it” lets you talk instead of typing. When you use it, your phone turns your voice into text using its own on-device speech recognition. The audio is processed on your phone, not sent to a server. If your phone can't do that locally, Binned turns the feature off rather than sending audio elsewhere.
Screenshots and the app switcher
Binned blocks screenshots and screen recordings while it's open. It also hides its content from your phone's app-switcher preview, so a kept or in-progress page isn't visible there.
What we never do
- Read what you write.
- Sell or share your writing. We don't have it to sell or share.
- Show ads.
- Take away something you've paid for.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top and describe what changed. We won't change it to take back a promise made here.
